Key Bank Neighbors “Make the Difference” at ASIA

June 6th, 2010

keybank 003

As part of Key Bank’s program, “Neighbors Make the Difference,” ten Key Bank employees from local branches donated their time and talents on May 25th to volunteer for ASIA.  Project leader Linda Kucinski, Senior Vice President of Investment Operations, and her team worked all afternoon cleaning, organizing, and repairing classrooms for ASIA’s west side Community Adult Mentoring program in Cleveland.  The program serves refugee students and their families who utilize the classrooms throughout the week.   Key Bank’s volunteers helped to make the space clean and safe for the families and children to learn and grow.

Asian Americans are almost twice as likely than the general population to develop diabetes, even when the BMI is within normal limits. (1) Consequently, it is essential for this population to develop awareness of early signs and symptoms, despite cultural differences in perceptions of health. The purpose of this training is to provide health care practitioners with information that supports the development of constructive relationships with Asian-American clients and increased positive health-related outcomes. Learning activities focus on development and enhancement of cultural competency skills at the individual and organizational level, with special emphasis on Burmese and Bhutanese perceptions of health. 1 – http://diabetes.boomja.com/Asian-Americans-and-Diabetes-382.html  (Full program flyer)
