ASIA’s Executive Director to present at CSU conference on education

January 31st, 2011

Cleveland State University will host a conference on Friday, February 25 focused on “Educating All Our Children: Bringing ‘What Works’ to Scale.” ASIA’s Executive Director, Michael Byun will present on the role of community agencies in supporting school children.

CSU’s College of Education and Human Services notes, “the day will be filled with thought-provoking speakers and workshop presenters intended to promote dialogue about how local schools and community organizations can work with schoolchildren to create conditions and opportunities for academic success.  We hope to highlight innovative programs that are piloting and practicing effective ways to educate all children and youth, particularly in urban contexts where the challenges are especially pronounced.”

The registration cost is $50 or $65 for Continuing Education credit.

ASIA’s International Community Empowerment Program recognized

January 21st, 2011

ASIA’s International Community Empowerment Program is recognized by staff at the Findley Community Learning Center for the positive impact ICEP has on Findley CLC students who participate in the program.  Miss Joseph, a first grade teacher, notes that she has seen a “tremendous difference” in her students who participate in ICEP, praising their confidence and self esteem.

Tzu Chi Foundation offers Chinese classes, scholarhips

The Tzu Chi Cleveland Service Center in Highland Heights is offering children’s Chinese classes for 2011.  Click here for a flyer or here to register for classes.

      Ohio's first-ever AAPI Legislative Day was held in the Main Atrium of the Statehouse in Columbus. More than 350 AAPIs from across Ohio came together to understand their collective power and learn about each other's communities and the importance of political engagement.
