Cleveland International Film Festival March 24 – April 3

Join ASIA in celebrating the 35th Cleveland International Film Festival on March 24 – April 3 at Tower City Center.  ASIA is sponsoring the film Seven Days in Heaven from Taiwan, “a crazy quilt of a movie about the strange procedures families undergo in the name of escorting loved ones properly into the afterlife.”  The film follows the experiences of an urban intellectual who returns home to rural Taiwan for her father’s funeral.  Seven Days in Heaven is presented in Mandarin and Taiwanese with subtitles.

Akron Community Foundation awards Early Learning Grant to ASIA

ASIA is pleased to be among recipients of the Akron Community Foundation’s Early Learning grants.  ASIA received funding to support Project READY, an early childhood development and school readiness program for refugee children up to age 5 and their parents.  This is the third consecutive year that the Akron Community Foundation has focused on education grants that help prepare Summit County’s young children to succeed in school.

Asiatown Business Promotion cards now available

Do you live, work, dine, or shop in Asiatown Cleveland?  You can save money while supporting local businesses and ASIA’s programs and asiatownservices.  Purchase an Asiatown Business Promotion card and receive discounts at restaurants, groceries, and other shops in Asiatown.

All proceeds directly support the work of ASIA and impact 8,000 people each year.

Senior Housing Openings in Akron

ASIA is pleased to announce that the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority will be taking applications for the Edgewood Village V waiting list beginning Monday, February 28, 2011. Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 11:30 am and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Edgewood Village V will consist of 1 and 2 bedroom rent assisted units. This building has been designated as non smoking and “ELDERLY ONLY”.  All units are either mobility and sensory accessible or  adaptable.  To qualify for this building the head of household or spouse must be at least 62 years of age.

Persons interested in applying may come to 506 Euclid Ave, Akron, Ohio 44307 or call 330-434-HOPE (330-434-4673) for more information.

Persons needing assistance due to disabilities should call (voice) 330-762-9631 or Ohio Relay Service 1-800-750-0750.
