Workshop for foreign healthcare workers begins Oct. 22

Were you trained as a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, therapist, social worker or in another healthcare profession before you came to the U.S.? Do you want to go back to your healthcare career but need assistance improving your English and
learning about the U.S. healthcare system?

Starting Saturday, Oct. 22, Global Cleveland is offering a free training program for healthcare professionals trained abroad: English and Pathways for Healthcare Professionals

  • Learn medical terminology and work-related English
  • Access an on-line course, “Medical Terminology:A Word Association Approach”
  • Learn about the U.S. healthcare system and how to get a job
  • Option to have foreign credentials verified, evaluated, and compared to Ohio licensing standards
  • Develop your career pathway plan that builds on your healthcare background and experiences
  • Network with healthcare employers
  • Free Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification

Dr. Mieko Smith to present at UA’s China Week

Dr. Mieko Smith, professor of social work at the University of Akron and partner of ASIA, will present at UA’s China Week 2011.  Dr. Smith’s presentation “Health Challenges for Asian Americans” will be held Monday, Oct. 10 at 2:15pm in the Student Union at Akron’s main campus.

The University of Akron’s China Week, sponsored by the Confucius Institute, is an invitation to explore China’s culture, politics, economics, history, philosophy, language, martial arts, cuisine and more.  Programs are free and open to the public.

ASIA, Inc. awarded 2-year grant from USCIS

September 28th, 2011

Asian Services In Action is pleased to announce a two-year grant award of $199,852 from USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services).  This generous funding will enable ASIA to offer citizenship classes to 448 lawful permanent residents, and assist 390 lawful permanent residents with legal immigration services.

Help members of your community register to vote by printing out copies of the voter registration forms above, or taking some extras home when you stop by ASIA, Inc.

Online training for immigrant and refugee job seekers

Upwardly Global is offering an exciting FREE online workshop, Introduction to Professional Job Interviews for Skilled Immigrants Register today! The hour long workshop will be led by Upwardly Global’s training staff, and followed by a 15 minute question and answer session with Antony Chang, VP of Organizational Development at the Opportunity Fund.

Upwardly Global is a nonprofit organization committed to helping skilled immigrants and refugees rebuild their careers in the U.S.  If you are already an Upwardly Global Job Seeker, this workshop will be a great review for you.  If you are new to Upwardly Global’s programs, this webinar is an excellent way to learn about navigating the process of interviewing in the U.S.
