Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Seeking Chinese-speaking Poll Workers

The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections is seeking poll workers who are fluent in Chinese (Mandarin) to assist in next year’s elections.

Registered Cuyahoga County voters can apply on the CCBOE’s website: http://boe.cuyahogacounty.us/en-US/job-opportunities.aspx.  When applying, please also advise Dennis Anderson at danderson@cuyahogacounty.us so that he may follow up on the status of your application.

ASIA’s Holiday Hours

December 11th, 2011

Please note! ASIA, Inc.’s Akron and Cleveland offices will be CLOSED for Christmas (Dec. 26 – 27) and New Year’s (Dec. 30 & Jan. 2)

Limited staff and office hours will be in effect for our Cleveland and Akron offices in the month of December.  See below for our holiday hours, and also for details of specific programs:

Akron office: 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. from December 19, 2011 (Mon.) – January 2, 2012 (Mon.)

Normal Akron office hours will resume January 3, 2012 (Tues.).

  • The International Community Empowerment Project (ICEP) will go on break December 19, 2011 and resume on January 9, 2012.
  • 10 a.m. Mon. & Wed. ESOL class: last day is December 14, 2011.  Class will resume January 9, 2012.
  • 4:30 p.m. Tues. & Thurs. ESOL class: last day is December 13, 2011.  Class will resume April 3, 2012.
  • 10 a.m. Tues. & Thurs. Citizenship class: last day is December 13, 2011.
  • Sat. ESOL class will begin January 14, 2012.

Cleveland office: CLOSED from December 21, 2011 (Wed.) – January 3, 2012 (Tues.)

Normal Cleveland office hours will resume January 4, 2012 (Wed.).

  • Self-Sufficiency Services will provide limited emergency services.  Call Susan Wong at (216) 233-5114.
  • Children, Youth, and Family Services: for assistance, call Susan Wong at (216) 233-5114.

“Power of Kaur”: Free Sikh Women’s Empowerment Workshop

ASIA, Inc.’s Domestic Violence Program invites you to attend “Power of Kaur”, a free one-day workshop for Sikh women’s empowerment this Saturday, December 10th, 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  Come to affirm the pivotal role Sikh women play in the home and family, and discuss empowerment in ‘the way of the householder’.

Chinese Art Music: Fri. Dec 9 Cleveland Art Museum

Chinese Art Music: Yang Wei and Ensemble
Friday, December 9, 2011, 7:30 p.m.

This specially commissioned program of Chinese art music features an ensemble of Chinese virtuoso instrumentalists—led by pipa master Yang Wei—and cellist Mike Block. Yang Wei has been playing the pipa since he was 13 and his artistry has been celebrated worldwide, inspiring audiences throughout Asia, Europe, and the United States. On December 9, Yang Wei and ensemble will perform Chinese music at its height of beauty and sophistication. This program complements the museum’s exhibition Chinese Art in an Age of Revolution: Fu Baoshi (1904–1965), on view now through January 8, 2012.
