Northeast Ohio Asian Women’s Leadership Initiative (NALI): New Publication

January 25th, 2012

Asian Services In Action is pleased to announce the release of a publication on domestic violence in the Asian community that highlights the work of the Northeast Ohio Asian Women’s Leadership Initiative (NALI).

The NALI project is the first and only program of its kind to combat the issue of domestic violence among Asian women in Northeast Ohio.  The program takes a collaborative approach by partnering with eight Asian immigrant and refugee groups including Korean, Indian, Laotian, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese and other communities.  With scarce resources currently available for Asian women regarding domestic violence, the NALI publication helps highlight the challenges and successes in the community surrounding domestic violence and women’s empowerment.

Call for Volunteer Scholarship Readers: APIASF Scholarship Program

January 24th, 2012

The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) is seeking volunteers to serve as readers for the APIASF Scholarship Program. Readers assist in the review and evaluation of scholarship applications submitted for the 2012-2013 academic year.

The scholarship review process will take place between now and March 2012. Readers will have access to a secure website to review scholarship applications. APIASF received over 7,800 scholarship applications this year.  To ensure that there are enough readers to evaluate all applications, readers are asked to commit to evaluate a minimum of 40 applications. Each application takes approximately 10-15 minutes to review.

New volunteers are required to review a training webinar. The training will cover basic information related to education in the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities and provide an overview of the review and scoring process.

All readers must have an undergraduate college diploma.

If you are interested in volunteering as a reader for the APIASF Scholarship Program, please complete the new reader registration form online at https://secure.apiasf.org/reader/.

For more information, please email Devita Bishundat at dbishundat@apiasf.org or call (202)747-7235.
