International
Community Empowerment Project (ICEP)
ICEP is a prevention program funded by the Ohio Department of Alcohol
and Drug Addiction Services ("ODADAS"). Its goal is to
educate and empower youth and their families from Asian and other
emerging communities in Summit County to make healthy life choices
related to violence, alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. ICEP serves
approximately 250 children and 125 adults every year. This is ASIA's

Community
Adult Mentoring Project (CAM)
CAM is a prevention mentoring program funded by ODADAS. It provides
peer mentoring and adult group mentoring to new Asian Americans
in Cuyahoga County. Learn More
Health
Fairs
Health Fairs have provided the local Asian population and other
ethnic communities with much needed education on health issues and
free health screening. The Ohio Commission on Minority Health and
the Ohio Department of Health have traditionally funded health promotion
activities focusing on cardiovascular, cancer, hepatitis and osteoporosis

Teen Creations
A project funded by the Welty Family
Foundation. Its goal is to prepare youth from emerging
immigrant communities to enter the work world and become responsible
citizens contributing to their individual socio-economic well-being,
that of their families, communities and the society as a whole.
Participants commit to finishing their high school education while
learning work and life skills that will enable them to transition
effectively to the workforce. Learn More
Asian
American Youth Against Tobacco (AAYAT)
Funded by the Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation,
AAYAT is a coalition of Asian American youth dedicated to increase
awareness of and reduce the harmful effects of tobacco use through
health education, disease prevention and policy advocacy throughout

Immigrants
Living Literate In America (ILLA)
With support
from the Knight Foundation's
American Dream Fund,
ILLA is a program to engage the newcomer community in civic life and
to educate the mainstream community about the assets that immigrant
and refugee populations bring to the region. Workshops and

Newcomers
Family Support Center
With support
from the Cuyahoga County Commissioners,
the Center provides TANF eligible individuals
basic skills training to make them work ready. In addition,
clients and their families are assessed and provided follow-up
services and linked to other valuable resources in the community.

Health
Through Actions Initiative (HTA)
HTA is a
multi-year initiative funded by the Asian Pacific Islander American
Health Forum with support from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.
The focus is on building the capacity of community collaboratives to
address major health issues within Asian Pacific Islander and Native
Hawaiian populations. HTA is a statewide initiative that
engages agencies and individual in Akron, Cleveland, Cincinnati,
Columbus, Dayton and others. For more information, please

Community
Outreach Partnership Center (COPC)
ASIA, Inc., has partnered with
University Park Alliance to target language-accessible homeownership
and fair housing services to Asian communities—Burmese, Chinese,
Hmong, Korean, Lao, Mon, and Vietnamese in the University Park
area. The goal is to use language-specific counseling services and
workshops to educate these residents on their rights as renters and
to help them make a successful transition to homeownership.
Fair Housing Contact Service staffs the walk-in sessions on
housing issues at the COPC Center located at 560 Allyn St. Outreach
activities to the communities include
The monthly COPC calendar listing all
programs held at the COPC Center and at ASIA are translated into
Burmese, Chinese, Hmong, Korean, Lao, Mon (Burma), Karen (Burma),
and Vietnamese. They are distributed at area Asian groceries and
churches, cultural festivals and to residents of the University Park
area.
A Computer Lab, which officially opened
for business in October 2007, is used to research housing issues,
credit history, ESL instruction, and computer instruction for the
Lucky Seniors. Users come from the University Park area and
neighboring communities.

Senior Tax
Preparation Assistance Program
ASIA is a partner
in the University Park Alliance (UPA), along with the City of Akron,
Summa Health Systems, and the University of Akron. UPA is a
major initiative in the University Park Neighborhood, known to be
one of the poorest neighborhoods in the City of Akron. The
Center provides workshops and assistance to businesses, families and
individual in the UPA area. The Center also offers a free
computer center to residents who are interested in finding resources
to purchase a home, to find a job, or to apply for school.
