Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening
The Asian Health Access Initiative (AHAI) is focused on removing language and cultural barriers to existing programs and services available in the broader community, in this case, breast and cervical cancer prevention and screening. Part of the initiative, the Asian-American Women Empowered (AWE) will place emphasis on reaching underserved Southeast Asian women (Vietnamese, Laotian, and Cambodian The project will train bilingual community health workers (CHOWs) who will outreach to low-income women for screening and treatment.
The program is a partnership with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and the Orange County Asian Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA) and is partially funded by the Mt. Sinai Health Care Foundation and PATH Women CEED (cooperative agreement with Centers for Disease Prevention and Control 5u58DP001006-03).
