Tobacco Control
Funded by the Ohio Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation, AAYAT is a coalition of Asian American youth dedicated to increasing awareness and reducing the harmful effects of tobacco use through health education, disease prevention and policy advocacy throughout Ohio. AAYAT is a leadership and advocacy program located in Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Cleveland, and Akron. Members are comprised of high school students from various Asian ethnicities. Meetings are held monthly and are run by the youth.
Program Objectives:
* To develop and implement a tobacco prevention/intervention program designed to meet the needs of the Ohio Asian population.
* To reduce youth tobacco use among regional Asian American populations.
* To reduce tobacco use among region Asian American populations, with particular emphasis on Asian adult males.
* To reduce exposure to environmental (secondhand) tobacco smoke as experienced by Asian children and teens within their homes and social environments.
